Steve Basham

Steve Brian Basham Date of Birth: Dec 2, 1977

Born in Southampton, Steve joined his local team, signing professional terms with Southampton at 17, making his professional debut in the Premier League for the Saints, scoring his only goal in a 2-0 victory over Blackburn, which led to the resignation of Roy Hodgson.

His time at Southampton was punctuated with loans, firstly to Wrexham in 1998, and then two separate loans to Preston North End, where he impressed during the first half of the 1999/00 season, prompting Preston to sign Steve for a fee of £200,000, and he was a vital component in Preston's promotion from Division Two that season.

A series of injuries, including a broken leg halted Steve's progress and playing time with Preston, with his release at the end of the 2001/02 season, following which he signed for Oxford, making 187 appearances over 5 seasons at the Kassam Stadium. Following his release by Oxford, he was signed by Exeter, where he experienced back to back promotions to League 2 via the playoffs and then to League 1, with Exeter opting not to renew his contract, Luton Town manager Mick Harford signed Steve ahead of the 2009/10 season, with the hopes of utilising his experience in getting instant promotion back to the Football League.

Basham started the season as a squad player for Luton, with appearances off the bench against Wimbledon, Gateshead, Mansfield, Forest Green and Salisbury under Mick Harford. However, he quickly feel out of favour under Richard Money, with his only start, and final appearance for Luton coming in first round FA Cup tie against Rochdale, where he scored two goals in a 3-3 draw.

Steve would be loaned out for the remainder of the season to Hayes & Yeading, upon his return to Luton at the end of his loan, he was released a day later, signing with Brackley Town and then to Oxford City.
