Tommy Irvine

Born in Springfield, Ayrshire in 1898, Tommy was playing Scottish junior football when he was signed on by the Town as a professional at the relatively late age of 24 in June 1922.

Initially unable to get into the side in his favoured inside-forward position due to the form of George Butcher and Harry Higginbotham, when he did get his chance he suffered a series of unfortunate injuries.

The signing of the experienced Ralph Hoten signalled the end of his professional career and Tommy signed for Bedford at the season’s end before drifting back to Scotland. Tommy passed away in Ayr in 1964.
