Tommy McKechnie

Thomas Sharp McKechnie Date of Birth: Feb 9, 1940

Brave and tough forward Tommy was playing Scottish junior football for the romantically named Kirkintilloch Rob Roy when he was spotted by Luton Town, signing for the Hatters in the summer of 1961.

Due to injuries Tommy was pitchforked into the Luton first team at the start of 1961/62 without even a reserve team appearance under his belt and did remarkably well netting ten goals in 33 starts. As the Town slipped down the divisions so did Tommy’s goalscoring prowess although he always gave 100% and his all action style frightened defences.

After short stays at Bournemouth, Colchester and Bury Town, Tommy returned to Scotland and his birthplace, Milngavie, where he passed away in 2009.
