Walter Robert Fairgrieve Date of Birth: Aug 30, 1874 Share "Walter Fairgrieve" on FacebookBorn in Edinburgh in 1874, Walter became a well-known centre-forward in local footballing circles and earned a Scottish junior cap.
He had a trial at Everton and then a year at Southampton before coming to Luton in 1899 where in his 14 games he carried the forward line in a struggling side.
Knowing that he wanted to return to Scotland the Town accepted a fee from Hibernian for his services and from there he moved to Partick, Hearts and Dunfermline in quick succession, drinking and general misconduct not helping his career.
Enlisting with the 15th Battalion Royal Scots at the outbreak of the Great War he passed away while stationed in Troon in June 1915 from a previously undiagnosed heart defect.
