Bill Boyd

Bill William Boyd Date of Birth: Nov 27, 1905

A goalscorer wherever he went, Billy was born in Cambuslang in 1905 and left the shipyards to join Clyde where he top-scored four seasons in a row and picked up two Scottish caps along the way.

The small, quick and powerful forward joined Sheffield United in 1933 for £2250 where he continued his goalscoring exploits before Manchester United came calling. His stay at Old Trafford was brief and it was from Workington that he signed on for the Town in December 1935.

He started his Luton career in tremendous form which included all five goals in a 5-3 home win over Clapton Orient but his injury on Easter Saturday 1936 paved the way for Joe Payne to make his debut……! Billy joined Southampton that summer for £350 down and £150 on completion of 21 appearances. He managed 19 before drifting off to non-League.

Billy passed away in Bristol in 1967.
