Born in Dundee in 1866, Edward played for Victoria Rangers of Luton before joining in a pre-season warm-up game for the reserves against the Town first team.

He impressed at wing-half and was soon turning out for the first eleven. Showing the versatility of footballers in the early days, Edward played at full-back and wing-half in 1887-88 but in the following campaign was put in goal for two important FA Cup ties.

Edward passed away in Luton in 1915.
