Manny Cheshire

William Cheshire

Born in Luton in 1872, his surname was wrongly spelt as Chesher in so many reports and profiles.

Playing locally for Luton Terriers and working in the hat trade he came to the Town in 1890 and shortly afterwards became one of the club’s first paid professionals.

Manny could play anywhere but was more effective in the forward line where his ’30 yard daisycutters’ were often talked about.

Manny continued to play for the Town until 1895 when he joined St Albans.
