Sandy Brown
Sandy Alexander Brown Date of Birth: Dec 21, 1877 Share "Sandy Brown" on FacebookBorn in Beith, Ayrshire in 1879, Sandy began his playing career with the gloriously named Glenbuck Cherry Pickers before moving to St Bernards in the Scottish League and then joining the exodus south and joining Preston.
A spell at Portsmouth followed before he starred for Tottenham in 1900-01, scoring in very round of the FA Cup as Spurs lifted the trophy for the first time. Back again to Portsmouth where he picked up a Scottish cap (he had played for Scotland once before, but the game – the Ibrox disaster match against England in 1902 - was declared void), then to Middlesbrough before ending up at Luton in 1905.
A languid centre-forward, some said lazy, he came to life in the box and enjoyed three seasons at Kenilworth Road netting 47 goals in 96 starts, living up to his nickname as the ‘Glenbuck goal-getter’. After leaving Luton he eventually ended his career at Ayr United.
