Tommy Gibbon

Tommy Gibbon Date of Birth: Mar 24, 1891

Born in West Hartlepool in 1891, Tommy was a more than capable goalkeeper who had played in the Football League for Glossop but whose big break was turning out for Dundee with whom he was ever-present in 1921-22, helping the Scottish Division One side to a top four finish.

Signed by Luton in the summer of 1922 he surprisingly had to wait for his debut but after the early season injury to Harry Bailey he made the position his own for the next two seasons.

Commanding in the area with a phenomenal reach he suffered injuries towards the end of his second season and when fit could not displace his deputy John Orr.

He left for QPR in the summer of 1924 but after hanging up his gloves carried out scouting work for the Town. He passed away in Luton in 1975.
