Alfred Warner
Alfred Warner Date of Birth: Apr 14, 1879 Share "Alfred Warner" on FacebookBorn in Nottingham in 1879, Alf played local football before being picked up by Notts County in 1898 where he progressed through the reserves to get a good run in the Magpies first team who were then riding high in the top flight.
When his appearances dwindled he moved on for three seasons at Tottenham where he entertained the crowd with his clever footwork, either on the wing or inside-forward, and fierce shooting.
Again his starts dwindled and he came to Luton in the summer of 1905 and scored the first competitive hat-trick at the new Kenilworth Road ground during a 7-1 humbling of Bristol Rovers in October of that year.
In his second season Alf played mainly on the wing where he became a crowd favourite with his sometimes ‘showboating’ performances so it came as a surprise when he announced his retirement from the game in 1907.
His retirement did not last long as he was enticed back to Notts the following season to help them avoid relegation. After a handful of cameo performances and with mission accomplished he retired for good. Alf passed away in Nottingham on the 13th of June 1939.
