Frank Whitby

Born in Luton in 1867, Frank first started playing for Luton Rovers in 1882 and joined the Town club on formation.

A quick winger with good shooting abilities, Frank remained a fixture in the Luton side until 1893 and during that time became one of the club’s first professionals along with his brother Harry and Tom Read.

After finishing playing, Frank continued to work in the family hat business before emigrating to Australia. He returned to Luton in 1936 for a visit and gave interviews to the local press but from then the trail runs cold.
