George Humphrey

George Humphrey

Born in Berkhamsted in 1861, George first came to prominence with Luton Excelsior but became a founder member of the Town in 1885.

A full-back, he turned out for the reserves but played in the first team when called upon, most notably in the FA Cup games between 1888-1890. Falling out with the club over inadequate compensation after getting injured in a game he joined St Albans and although he did play the occasional game for the Strawplaiters afterwards he firmly held a stronger allegiance to the Hertfordshire side.
