Mike Newell puts out a largely second-string side and then sees debutant Leon Barnett red carded for a foul and loses David Bayliss through injury early in the tie. The Town’s ten men hold out valiantly, but two goals from Nugent and Ricketts in the final two minutes, sees the Swans, who are playing their final season at the Vetch Field, progress to the next round. Paul Hughes, suffering from a blood-related illness plays his last game for the Hatters.
